Cartmel is the home of sticky toffee. It’s something we’re very proud of, as we are of our 12th century Priory and the racecourse which runs straight past the Village Shop.
That’s where Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding was born – we started baking in the back kitchen of our Village Shop a good 20 years ago. Word soon got out and it seemed like everyone wanted some, so we had to move to a bigger kitchen. But however busy we are, it’s still handmade, and there’s still nothing to match it. That’s why Cartmel is the home of Sticky Toffee.
We’ve been making delicious sticky puddings to our traditional recipe for almost 25 years. We are family-owned, based in the South Lakes area of Cumbria, employing more than 30 people and supplying farm shops, delis and speciality food retailers, as well as Booths and Waitrose.
We don’t use loads of machines and production lines – instead we have a dedicated team who share our passion for puddings. All of our puds are made with love – we even ladle the sauce over by hand. It takes a bit longer but we think you can taste the difference.
Our puddings contain 100% natural ingredients, many sourced from the same local suppliers that we found when we started making sticky puds all those years ago. We have been declared a “Food Hero” by Rick Stein and a lot of well-known people have said extremely nice things about our puds, including Nigella Lawson, Jean-Christophe Novelli and Anthony Worrall Thompson.
Please be aware that our puddings need to be kept in the refrigerator and have a chilled shelf life of between 14 days for the crumbles and sponges and 4 to 6 weeks for the sticky range.
